Lost Wallet Leads to Child Identity Theft Case
Have you ever found a wallet on the ground and returned it to its rightful owner (out of the goodness of your heart)? Well that’s what happened in this Pensacola, Florida story when a grocery store employee found Jade Ingalls wallet left behind. When the store clerk searched the wallet for identification, there were five different driver’s licenses bearing different names and the same photo.
Pensacola officers later pulled over Ingalls in a routine traffic stop, but when they were given a Bahamas driver’s license and insurance card in different names, they asked to search the vehicle. What turned up was one of the most elaborate fraud findings in Florida criminal history. Jade had kept dozens of false documents like payroll checks from the Department of Defense, an Associated Press ID card, college degrees and birth certificates. Talk about a high profile identity thief! Trust me, it gets better.
Just when you thought your usual case of identity theft couldn’t get any lower, this criminal found a way of nailing the crime on the head. Ingalls had used the name, birth date and social security number of a 3 year old boy who died in 1984. Ingalls plead guilty (as if he had any choice) to 15 charges of aggravated ID theft and other fraud crimes. He received 66 months in prison time and over $30,000 in restitution. Hold on to your purses and wallets (and degrees, birth certificates, etc) folks!
