My Beef with My Post Office

I have a personal beef with my post office. That’s right. My post office. Every time I attempt to mail packages or buy stamps I pull out my trusty credit card and hand it to the clerk. The man or woman behind the counter flips it over and sees the back where I have boldly printed, “Please See ID” and quickly says, “I cannot accept this card. In fact, your card isn’t even technically valid.”

They’ve even taken it a step further and told me they have an “identity theft protection policy” which requires them to only accept signed cards. Yet, when I have offered to verify my identity with, hmm…let’s see, a PHOTO they don’t think it’s sufficient. But when I produce a card with a signature they don’t attempt to verify my identity or my signature and instead just swipe it merrily with a smile on their faces. So any person can take a signed card into the post office and purchase away—even identity thieves are welcome to spend freely as long as they use signed cards. Now that’s an identity theft protection policy to be proud of.

Identity theft is really a reasonable crime according to my friend. These strategies of scamming, especially in post offices are already growing naturally and they have lots of innovative ways to personally steal your identity. We should be smart of it guys and we have the right to sue them if they steal our private identity.

Sorry but the Post Office is correct not to accept your card and idiotic as it sounds. The card is not valid until signed. Stupid, I agree. Sign the card and use a sharpee marker adding onto the back of the card Check Photo ID.
